FAQ

1   How do I get started?

1) Request a quote using our online form, whatsapp us or give us a call to discuss the scope of your project and we'll create a proposal for you within 2 business days.

2) Package securely, drop off or courier your products. Please include a packing slip, an order form, instructions and/or any sample photos you'd like the photographer to reference when shooting your product.

4   Will you open or unbox my product/s?

We know our clients have some awesome products, and as tempting as it is to see them, we will never intentionally open, unbox or remove packaging or labels without your permission or request. If you have requested that we take photos of your product/s without packaging (out-of-pack) or any other shot that requires opening a product or removing packaging of any sort, we naturally will be returning those products opened and will not be liable for the cost of that product.

Although every effort is made to keep products in perfect condition, sometimes handling products means a team member may drop or damage it accidentally. We may ask you to send another one if required.

Due to the nature of the service we provide, we are not liable for any damages incurred.

7   What is a TIFF, PSD, JPEG, and PNG file?

A TIFF file is a high-quality image file that keeps a lot of detail. Edits made in professional design/photo software like clipping-outlines and retouching can be kept separate instead of being flattened into one image. Because of that, it’s commonly used by photographers, designers, and printers when image quality really matters. TIFF files are much larger than formats like JPG, so they’re not ideal for e-commerce and websites.

A PSD file is Photoshop’s native file format. Edits like clipping-outlines and retouching can be kept separate instead of being flattened into one image. It’s ideal for ongoing work and complex edits in Photoshop, but the files are large so they’re not ideal for e-commerce and websites.

A JPEG file is a common image format designed to keep file sizes small by losing detail. It’s great for online, e-commerce and everyday sharing, but it loses quality each time it’s saved and does not support layers or transparency (no background).

A PNG file is a high-quality image format that keeps sharp detail and supports transparency (no background), making it popular for logos, graphics, and web images. It doesn’t lose quality when saved, but files are larger than JPEGs and do not support layers.

5   What happens if my products arrive damaged or become damaged at your studio?

We know it sucks when your precious packages arrive damaged! Couriers and delivery companies are independent businesses and it is not our responsibility to keep your products safe. Should they arrive damaged, we will request a new one from you for the purpose of the shoot.

We urge you to consider insuring your package with the courier and claiming from them should something happen to it.

Although every effort is made to keep products in perfect condition, sometimes handling products means a studio team member may drop or damage it accidentally. In the very rare event, we may ask you to send another one if required.

Due to the practical nature of the service we provide, we cannot be liable for any damages incurred.

8   What is 'print prep' and 'web optimisation'?

A photo that is ready for printing (print prep) is one that is almost always in the CMYK colour format at high-resolution (300dpi) for high-quality printing. This will usually be supplied as a TIFF file.

A photo that has been optimised for the web (digital use) is one that is almost always in RBG colour format and of lower resolution (usually 72dpi to accommodate storage and loading time). This will usually be supplied as a JPEG file.

The practical size (pixels) will determine how big and what 'shape' the photo appears. For example, 500x500px will appear square online.

If you are supplying product images for marketplaces like Takealot or Amazon, make sure of the minimum size images they require before selecting your JPEG optimisation sizes.

3   How are products returned?

You can either collect your products or arrange for collection from the studio using your own courier, or we will return your products using an independent courier. Should we need to return them by courier, we will add the additional charge to your invoice.

Please note, we are not liable for any damages or losses incurred during courier, transport, handling or photographing of your product/s. Please read our Terms & Conditions of service here.

6   What is a clipping-path/outline?

A clipping-path is a detailed hand-drawn outline skilfully drawn around the edge of the product image and accessible when using professional design software.

It allows designers to lift just the product from the background and insert it into any other background.

This is useful when creating consistent e-commerce shots,  advertisements, broadsheets, shadows, digital media and so on.

This is not necessarily a PNG file, though can be used to save a PNG file in the right software.

9   Why should I use professional when I could use my smart phone and AI?

We know AI is easy to use and starting to fool some! For now, it cannot achieve the accuracy and predictability needed for official record and representation. Especially at an affordable rate.

Using a professional photographer for pack photos ensures your product images are accurate, compliant, and commercially reliable, not just visually appealing.

Our photographers understand GS1 standards and retailer requirements—such as correct angles, scale, colour accuracy, barcode clarity, and background consistency—so your products are accepted across catalogues, e-commerce platforms, and point-of-sale systems without rejection or rework.

Unlike AI or smartphones, which can distort proportions, colours, and text, a professional setup delivers true-to-life representation, repeatable results, and files that meet technical specs for print and digital use—protecting your brand, saving time, and avoiding costly mistakes.
